There definitely was contact, I can see shinny spots on the pistons and valves from when the grime came off. The timing belt sheared in half when I was driving, thankfully at almost no load at around 25 mph. It was rather audible too. Maybe I got lucky, who knows. What is the grime really from? Carbon deposits from the gas? pcv valves sucking in oil? running too rich or lean?
