Message My exhaust system looks like this:

- Z1 2.5" downpipes
- Random Tech 2.5" test pipes with high-flow cats
- Specialty-Z Catback w/ 2.5" SS Piping & Resonated X-Pipe

The way I modded my car was a bit unconventional perhaps, because the last piece of hardware added to the mix, so far, were the test pipes & high flow cats and the catback system. These were installed last Monday.

In any case, the OEM cats and catback system were way past their prime so the car certainly felt different afterwards. Throttle response has improved noticeably. One side-effect is the resonance that starts at 2,000 rpm and hits its peak at around 2,500, right at cruising speed. I realise that the sound characteristics of the mufflers will change a bit through the course of time, but the resonance can be tiring.

So here is the deal from my point of view:

- For performance purposes the SZ catback system with the X-pipe is second to none. On top of that, the workmanship is simply the best that I have ever seen. The guys at the shop where it was installed noticed it right away and commented on the great quality. Like I said, when I push the pedal to the metal the response is instantaneous and the sound while driving at high speed is a joy to listen to. This past week I pushed the car to over 100 miles an hour for extended periods during intercity trips and the sound of the exhaust was like icing on the cake.

- If you want a bit more comfort, perhaps you should consider the H-pipe with large resonators. I have to speak very loud in order to talk to whoever is sitting next to me, and my audio system is not up to the task anymore. Granted, the car sounds great when you are driving at high speed. But high speed means over 3,000 rpm and most of the time your engine will not be in that range. In Guapo's clip the exhaust sounds great. The thing is, is that really representative of the way you will be driving most of the time?

Having said that, I do not want to give up the X-pipe just yet so I decided to give it a try with a different set of mufflers. Based on what I read in this post I think that the Hooker Maximum Flow seems like an interesting alternative.
