floor in the beginning, but I'd been going through oil from the start. I had originally attributed the oil consumption to bad compression in a couple of cylinders. The range is from 125 to 158, I figured I'd just live with it until I could afford a fresh long block. But some time this early this year, I started noticing some oil on the garage floor. The leak has gotten much worse in the past few months, and my oil consumption is obviously now MUCH worse. I'm not sure if it was leaking all along, being caught by the splash shield not enough to hit the floor, or this leak is something new in addition to the oil consumed by the cylinders with low compression. The member I purchased the engine from contacted me on his own when the low compression first surfaced, and has given me a partial refund of the purchase price of the motor. I don't blame anyone. I think buying a used motor is pretty much a crap shoot. Maybe I should have done more research into the condition before I agreed to buy it. But the dice didn't fall in my favor this time.
