Message The goal of a BBK isn't to increase the amount of brake torque available - you can vary that much more readily with pad and tire selection - but to help mitigate fade. (Mitigation of fade does reduce stopping distances, as the goal of a brake is to convert the energy keeping the car moving into heat. Find a more efficient way to dissipate the heat, and you'll be able to dissipate more of it in a shorter time.)

That's why Brembo and Stoptech have smaller pistons than the stock brake system.

It's less about what the master cylinder will "handle", and more about 1) what maintains the stock brake torque (and bias), and 2) what will keep the ABS computer from getting confused (since it does control whether the calipers even receive brake fluid).
