Message	most people say a lean running engine is afr over 14.7:1(pump gas), where stoich is 14.7. and its true that it is not preferred to run lean (pump more air in) due to the higher temps and byproducts. and, in later posts, he states its blue from oil, not black from fuel like you stated. as for the backpressure, he was referring to the lack of pressure as being bad for the seals of the turbo...as related to his blue smoke issue, not the performance aspect.
