You also have to take into account that as the core gets thicker, the  efficiency goes down (hot air toward the back of the core doesn't cool as  well). The HKS has the thinnest and the tallest core of the SMICs (Tom's  site). There are trade-offs that each company made, but to say that HKS'  intercoolers are the worst because they have the smallest charge face is  ridiculous. I could make an intercooler that was 3" tall, 8" wide, and 14" deep, or I  could make one that was 14" tall, 8" wide, and 2" deep. Since the first IC  had a charge face 1.5X as large as the second one, is it better?  Of course it isn't! There is more to take into consideration than just the  charge face.
