Message without significant increases in backpressure and/or subsequent loss of power.

My empirical observation was they smoothed over the tenor and pitch of the lower rpm part of the exhaust note. They also eliminated any hint of raspiness at higher speeds.

So yes, they quieted it down a little bit. But also remember that Borlas are pretty quiet to begin with.

The primarily objective of this mod was to eliminate this resonant booming at low rpms. I am guessing the offending noise was a combination of using larger pipes, lack of any precat restrictions, and a hollow muffler chamber. Speeding up the exhaust gases did two things: It changed the sound frequencies; and it caused the gas flow to impact the muffler packing with greater velocity causing more sound to be absorbed.
