away. In regards to the new batch being quieter, there was a minor design change for that purpose. The first batch produced mostly quiet (or almost quiet differentials) in the majority of set ups. Some made what Richmond describes as a "performance sound"...I love that, they whine a little at light to moderate load. (I have had about 6 make an unacceptable amount of noise, and they were returned and waranteed). This was part of the design, as the gears were set up "high", so that under acceleration they would "square up" (have a more even and greater contact area). The initial run was made with 1,000+HP in mind...a bit of overkill. I talked to the design engineer at Richmond about producing them so that they would be apt to be quieter. He did that. I believe that they aren't as concerned about the total contact area under acceleration (the ring gear tends to back away from the pinion gear under big load) and were made with cruising sound to be considered as well as strength. The feedback I've received from the new set ups is that they are quiet. There is one caveat, and that is that the gears are set up properly. I don't know every shop that has set the gears up, but know for certain that a couple screwed up in the first run (They were waranteed by Richmond and myself anyway). Improperly set up gears will make noise. So for those of you thinking of getting a set of 4.10s, make sure you have a competent shop, or contact SpecialtyZ or myself. As for performance, quickly do a search and I think you'll find a 100% satisfaction rate (Also, look at the folks running NA gearing in their TTs....same deal). Gearing is torque multiplication, and torque is acceleration and responsiveness. God, I said in one run on paragraph, what could have been said in two sentences. Hope that helps, Mark
