Message Yes. Fight them. The insurance adjusters job description is to avoid paying or minimize payments. Get as far as you can with the person you are talking to (ie. 2-3 phone calls) supply new information that supports your side at each call, and when you've reached the stop point with that person say "Fine I'll take it if I also keep the wreck!!!" Your answer will be "No! That is absolutely impossible."

At this point (be prepared with what you feel salvage value is ((you'll tell them a low value you've reasearched,))) and then (politely) demand to speak with a supervisor.

Politeness and professionalism is very important. Be firm and absolutely no swearing. Rehash YOUR evidence quickly and consisely and even quicker discount their evidence (ie. "I know that example car, its a NE car driven in salt winters" or something to that effect (truthfully).) In Canada, Quebec cars are notoriously rough and fraudulent, so should never be used as a market value indicator.

I hope this helps, but as a final note, when you've reached a dollar value you accept (or combination of $ and salvage) then demand full reimbusement of sales tax when and if you buy a replacement car. Whatever the value. If it works anything like it does in Canada, sales tax is fully rebatable as an expense for income tax for the insurance company.

Just one Canadians opinion.

"Never argue with an idiot. First they bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience."
