I've taken some time in the past few weeks to go through the Nissan FAST database (courtesy of AZ-ZBum) and with the help of a few other sources, compiled several spreadsheets of information concerning the exterior and interior color codes for all USDM Z32 years. I did this mostly because of the large amount of incorrect information floating around concerning different colors, production numbers, etc. Here is the site: http://www.j-bender.com/tech/prod If you have Excel or something that can read Excel files, be sure to check out the link to my spreadsheet on that page, as you can sort the columns at will (to find, say, the rarest color in 1992). These statistics cover every one of the 89,156 Zs produced for the U.S. market. You'll also notice that the exterior colors have two sets of names. The first is how they appear in the Nissan FAST database, and the second is how they appear in Nissan publications (such as sales brochures or what you'd find at the dealership). These dual names have caused quite a bit of confusion, especially in the case of color codes KH3 and GL1. Looking at my page, you can see that KH3 is 'Onyx' in the FAST database, and 'Super Black' in Nissan publications. By the same token, GL1 is 'Black' in the FAST database, and 'Onyx' in Nissan publications. So if you have a KH3 Z, it is correct to say your paint is Onyx, and if you have a GL1 Z, it is also correct to say your paint is Onyx. However, I've found that most people use the Nissan publication names, as they are more unique. Some other stats to note: Rarest colors:
CK2 - Cocoa Bronze Metallic - 103
LP2 - Deep Purple Metallic - 216
KL1 - Oxford Gray Metallic - 1,118
EJ0 - Gold Pearl - 1,206 Rarest interiors:
Z - White - 1,367
B - Blue - 2,702
A - Red - 2,802 There are also some curious and rare (for a reason) interior / exterior color combinations... AH3 - Cherry Red Pearl - (A) Red Interior - 23 total
326 - Super White - (B) Blue Interior - 4 total
I'd appreciate any and all feedback on the compiled statistics and the page. Right now it is the sole occupant of my 'Z32 Tech' section, which is why the navigation bar goes nowhere. I opted to post the stats in compressed PNG format because the size and complexity of an HTML representation of the spreadsheets is cumbersome at best.
Ideally I'd like to compile a gallery of every stock color code, both interior and exterior, and have it supplement the above page. To do that, I'd need to gather pictures from the owners of the Zs and use them with their permission, which can be difficult for some of the rarer colors. However, if you know your color code (on the panel in the engine bay, or from your VIN), have good condition original paint, I would be very happy to add your Zs picture to the gallery-in-progress.
