Message 1) Credit unions usually have lower % rates than local banks.

2) Age of the car does make a difference in the classification of new /used / etc.

3) The classification of the car's age can be a driver in the APR ( older car = greater risk of lower recovery amount if it needs to be repossesed ).

4) FICO / BEACON / ETC scores drives APR as well. There is a pricing matrix that banks used.

5) With some lending institutions - the more money down, the lower the APR may be ~ lower default risk / exposure to the bank.

6) APR can also be determined by loan amount and loan maturity time frame.

7) Manufacturer finance companies generally are better than local banks ( applies to newer cars ).

8) Apply has a cosigner and the primary person's credit will be the "driver" to determine the APR. The cosigner's info is used primarily for income and "shaky" credit / employment situations.

9) Take the high APR loan, make advance payments and refinance 6-9 months into the loan using the payment history to get a better loan.

10) I think the best option would be to take a H/E loan and take the tax deduction on the interest ( IMHO ).

11) Ask to speak with the sales dept manager. If you have good credit and an established relationship with the lending institution, sometimes the APR is negotiable by .5% to 1%.
