How do I swap differentials?
I don't know if this can be altered in any easier way, but this is what I used to convert the TT 3.69 final drive ratio to the NA 4.08 ratio by switching the differentials.
1. The main subframe (nothing attached, needed parts listed)
2. BOTH axles (NA are different diameter)
3. Bearing housing (since axles attach with their different diameter) Note: It is easier to pick up the whole knuckle so no pressing is needed
4. Driveshaft (front AND rear halves including the bolts to attach half to half and back half to diff. The bolts/nuts are the same)
5. NA differential
6. Differential support crossmember (attaches to subframe to hold diff up)
7. HICAS eliminator bars and bolts because they have one special bolt for alignment (I don't know a name for them. It keeps the wheel knuckle assembly in place when removing HICAS and attaches to subframe. Only the NA subframe has this) Note: right side and left side are the exact same and interchangable.
The front half of the driveshaft slides right into the TT tranny, the TT A-Arms can be used, along with the bolts for the diff crossmember and subframe bolts and all the normal bushings. The HICAS unit is removed and bypassed, I'll have more info on this soon.. if some would have made this post for me, I would have saved about a week and 300 miles AT LEAST, so maybe I'll help someone out with this.
